 Storyline :

Raghu (Soham Chakraborty) impersonates his acquaintances and kills anyone who tries to discover his true identity. A good student in school, his problems begin when his father commits suicide. Seeking revenge, he sets his house on fire, killing his mother and ending up in a juvenile home. Upon his release, he heads to Chennai to start anew and befriends Saleem, a medical student. But Saleem dies when the bus they are travelling in meets with an accident. Seeing an opportunity, Raghu impersonates Saleem and joins the medical college. There, he also makes new friends, Suresh and Ashok, and has a relationship with Riya (Payal Sarkar). One day, the gang comes across the juvenile home warden, who recognizes Raghu and reveals his real identity

 

 

Amanush 2 Movie  Reviews :

There are two reasons why you can spend one evening watching Amanush 2 and not regret later — Soham's impressive return after last year's Golpo Holeo Sotti and a gripping storyline that keeps you glued to your seats till the end. Thankfully, like most commercial Bengali films, Amanush 2 steers clear of the typical song and dance routine, an arm-candy heroine or a ruthless villain with a country's supply of weapons at his disposal. And if these don't excite you enough, the film has a brilliant Anindya Chatterjee (as Raghu's friend Ashok), who leaves a lasting impression once again after Chotushkone.

It's not easy to make a psychological thriller that is entertaining enough to connect to the masses. Script and the screenplay writer Anindya Bose excels in that department. He sticks to the reality and never goes overboard. Though Soham has a meaty role with substantial dialogues, and shoulders the entire film, Anindya steals the thunder quite often. Performance-wise, Soham emotes every mood — shyness, craziness, timidity or insanity —in a brilliant manner. So much so that even when it is revealed that he is a crazy killer, he gets audience sympathy. Rajesh Sharma, in a short role as a bright cop, complements Soham's character perfectly.

However, this film too has its share of flaws. It is predictable to a great extent, which takes away the charm of a thriller. Paayel Sarkar, as Ashok's girlfriend Riya, looks worn out. Even her heavy make-up, trendy clothes couldn't camouflage her disinterested performance. Otherwise, it is a good one-time watch.

 The film is based on Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay's story of the same name. The story revolves around a village autocrat, a thief, some gold coins and of course, a ghost

The film, as a faithful adaptation of Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay's story Chayamoy, is a collection of all things our childhood was made of. If you are a Shirshendu-holic, then you must be familiar with his gang of friendly ghosts. They usually help those in need. They are also very fond of kids and can go to any length to help the neglected, rejected and underdogs of the society. Chayamoy is also a story of such a ghost, whose honest meddling in others' lives changes the fates of Shimultala's people.


As the film starts, Shimultala, which looks like a normal village from outside, reveals a mixed bag of colourful characters — there's a village money monger Gagan (played with elan by Dipankar De), who exploits the poor villagers; a 93-year-old man, who actually looks forty; a fraud kapalik, who dreams of borrowing enough money from people so that he can build Ma Kali's than in bot-tala and have half liter of milk every day; a little boy who enjoys life even in extreme poverty; a thief, who possesses a bagful of gold coins and a ghost, who knows all the secrets. Like all thrillers we loved as a child, there's also a story of hidden treasures and unfulfilled dreams. It's good that director Haranath Chakraborty didn't take any unnecessary detours and decided to stick to the original plot. For that reason, the film he made is simple yet heart-warming. He was also extremely astute while deciding on the cast. As it's the ensemble cast of brilliant actors that ultimately make the film special. Every single one of them — be it Paran Bandopadhyay as the 93-year-old thakurda, Sudip Mukherjee as Gagan's hired goon with a heart of gold, Sabyasachi Mukherjee as the bondhu-bhoot or his talented son, Gaurav, as the thief-cum-hero of the film — play their individual roles as if they are actual residents of that village. Even the kid who plays Alankar is completely natural. Their performances are complemented by Debojyoti Mishra's music. Though, sometimes, it has uncanny similarities with that of Ray's, his background score helps to make the comic situations come alive. The director also brought back some veteran actors on screen after a long time. For that he deserves a special thanks. But Rituparna Sengupta's cameo as a courtesan of Gagan's fantasy and some childish special effects used in the film, fell short of expectations. The film also could have done with better editing.

Chayamoy can easily be termed as a children's film. However, as Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay's stories for children are enjoyed by Bengali readers, irrespective of age. Similarly this film also has the capacity to capture all hearts.

The movie depicts his life from his young age. Lalon was a born Hindu and happened to be a beautiful singer and had to accompany a group for a pilgrimage where he was believed to die out of a severe illness. Afterward he was rescued and saved by a Muslim family. There he came across a Fakir known as Siraj Sai who inspired him to a new life and Lalon was beginning a eternal journey to quest his own soul. Once he tried to go back to his original family & eventually was rejected for his company with Muslims. Thus the story of a great poet & singer and his quest unfolds.

 

Moner Manush Movie  Reviews :

 Gautam Ghose should be commended for making a film like 'Moner Manush.' The film is based on a story by Sunil Gangopadhyay. It revolves around the life of a singing Baul minstrel. Bauls are folksy singers from Bengal and the experience of listening to 'em is usually a sublime one.

The protagonist Lalan Fakir belonged to a Hindu family and once was abandoned after mistakenly presumed to have died after a boat capsize. He was rescued and nursed back to life by a Muslim family. The film also explores the deep animosity that exists in the rural villages between Hindus and Muslims. In one touching scene, when the protagonist returns to his village and family after having regained his power of recalling the past, which he had lost when he was abandoned, the villagers don't trust his claim of being one of them, and even his mother and wife who were convinced of his identity refused to go with him, because they considered him to have lost his 'purity' after living with the Muslim family.

The film also depicts the way of living of the simple singing clan and the deep philosophical thought that pervades their existence in spite of being illiterate from the perspective of a modern man. In this respect, Lalan is much similar with Sree Ramakrishna, the divine saint of Hinduism. The narrative style of simultaneous progression of flashback of the protagonist at his old age and his story from his youth is handled deftly. Prasenjit gives an outstanding performance in the central role. Others in the cast includes Indraneil Sengupta, Paoli Dam and others. The cinematography is spectacular and captures the rural backdrop with much finesse.

It reflects on the life and principles of Subhash Chandra Bose, firebrand freedom fighter. It is all about the Bengali roots that is being forgotten so easily today by Bengalees all around the globe. Hopefully this movie will re-instill the affinity and respect that Bengalis ought to have about their origin, rich heritage and culture.

 Shiraye shiraye jege uthuk uttapto Bangali rokto. Let Bengalis shine again in all fields... This in short, sums up "Ami Subhash Bolchi". Ridiculed by society,

cursed by one's own, laughed upon by the masses, the "useless" Bangali takes pride in hiding their identity. Bangali jonmo is more of a bane than a boon. They would much rather go for an affidavit and change the "old fashioned" name of Charulata Bose. The Kapoors, Khans seem to be the ones with class and panache. Swallowing insults, be it from the boss, bystander, biwi, beta or even the fishmonger is a way of life.

Trapped in such an existence is Debabrata Bose (Mithun). "Damn Bangali Bose", "Jato dosh, Debu Bose" or "Namei Bose, kichu kortey bollei behosh" mirror his status. But then comes the twist in the tale. In Debabrata's dreams appears Netaji and lectures him on the pride of being born as a Bengali. Now enlightened, the down and out Debu Bose 'rises' like the phoenix, finds his
voice and spine. He 'rises' from the dumps to destroy the demons (read the corrupt corporation officers and the realtor Ghosalia) and protect his home and hearth. He proclaims, "Ami Bangali gorbe gorbito ami Bangali, ami
gorbito ami Bangali."

In fact, all Bengalis have reason to take pride in Mithun's Debu Bose act. From the meek and docile Bose, who commands little respect from his family to the transformed Bose, who boldly takes upon the corrupt practices in the system, Mithun is a treat to watch. Considering that this is Barkha's first major Bengali film, she needs a pat on the back. Though traces of her accented Bengali persist, the actor has tried to give it her best. The father-daughter sequence, where Mithun apologizes for withdrawing money from her account to buy a bike for his son, Rahul (Shaheb), packs in the right emotional punch. Shaheb too does his bit in the limited screen space he gets. Laboni's acting skills can hardly be questioned, while Anindo scores as Netaji.

With dialogues such as "Je jaat jug jug dhore shuye achhe, take ghumer osudh dile overdose hoye jabe na?" and comic interludes, "ASB" does have its magical moments and mass connect. It now needs to be seen whether Mithun's "boldest film ever" makes an equally bold impression on the audience.

 Rituparno Ghosh is known as one of the most famous contemporary filmmaker and has given excellent movies in the past.I used to watch bollywood movies mostly and have seen very less bengali movie and for me,this is the best bengali movie i have seen.The director has crafted finer moments of tension, agony, helplessness, bitterness and passion in a sensitive and intelligent manner.The movie came from Planman Productions and again Arindam Chaudhuri came up with one more excellent movie through Dosar. Jogajog Movie Reviews :

When someone makes a film based on Rabindranath Tagore's literary masterpieces, the job is both difficult and easy. Difficult because almost all characters created by him are layered. Added to that, the storyline and the philosophical observations of the author make the onscreen adaptations of his works a bit hard. On the other hand, it's easy because the stories, the people in them, the backgrounds, are complicated and varied, and hence, cinematic. Sekhar Das's Jogajog has explored the complications of Tagore's writings and celebrated them through superb performances and brilliant music direction.

It's a story about two families - the Ghoshals and the Chatujjeys - who are age-old rivals. Bipradas Chatujjey (Arjun Chakrabortyy), a soft-spoken man devoted to music, becomes financially indebted to Madhusudan Ghoshal (Bratya Basu), the middle-aged businessman and patriarch of the Ghoshal family. To resolve the situation, Madhusudan offers to marry the youngest daughter of Chatujjey family, Kumudini, a girl half his age. The marriage brings the stark differences of the two families out in the open. Kumudini (Suvolagna Mukherjee), a strong-willed, religious-minded and culturally-rich girl agrees to the marriage to save her brothers. But Madhusudan's dominating nature and crudeness repulses her. Her situation becomes more difficult with the presence of Madhusudan's almost dysfunctional family — a hen-pecked brother and a widowed sister-in-law (Ananya Chatterjee), who is in an illegitimate relationship with her husband.

Bratya Basu, Suvolagna Mukherjee and Ananya Chatterjee make this film worth a watch. Suvolagna, especially, is a revelation. She is a bit stiff in some of the opening scenes, but as the film progresses, Kumudini becomes real with all her insecurities, unrequited love and rebelliousness. Her vulnerability gives a stark contrast to Bratya's roughness and that's what makes this unusual pair's chemistry real. For instance, the emotional tug-of-war between Madhusudan and Kumudini just after their wedding is heart-wrenching. The director has also given Madhusudan's character a humorous twist, which gives the much-needed relief from the film's overall intensity. Ananya Chatterjee as Shyamasundori, on the other hand, moves like a dark shadow throughout the film. One moment, she is the lonely widow desperate for attention and affection, and the next, she is the sultry femme fatale. And Ananya is brilliant in portraying the contradiction.

Shaheb Chatterjee and Locket Chatterjee as Nabin and Nistarini are entertaining as Madhu's brother and sister-in-law. So is Arjun as Kumu's elder brother. The film's strength is also its music and for that Pt Debojyoti Bose should be appreciated. However, the director should have taken more care while scripting and editing the film. Some scenes and some reactions of the actors are too hurried to make an impact. The story also drags 30 minutes too long. Last but not the least, there's confusion over the timeline in the film. The way the characters behave, the languages they speak indicate that they belong more or less to the time when the novel was published — 1929. Then how can the wedding band play Mein hoon don or Dekha na hai re socha na? Has the director forgotten that these films released in the late '70s? That's a jump of nearly half a century!

The bottomline: Jogajog is certainly worth a watch, purely for the stellar performances by the actors.
